12:55:26 From Kim Stone to Waiting Room Participants:
Welcome! We will let everyone in just before 1.
13:06:59 From Liz Kunkle to Everyone:
Go Green Winnetka is planning a solar tour on or around Sept. 24!
13:07:20 From David Bryant Go Green LaGrange to Everyone:
	I must leave for a 1:30 meeting
13:11:32 From Benjamin Krumstok to Everyone:
sorry...I didn't realize my mic was hot...thanks for muting.
13:11:53 From Sarah Sanford to Everyone:
	Bill number is?
13:12:07 From Liz Bowman to Everyone:
	3125
13:12:08 From Kim Stone to Everyone:
	HB 3125.
13:15:24 From Shital Pandit to Everyone:
Can you elaborate a bit on how this will be funded
13:15:43 From Beth Drucker to Everyone:
Go Green Wilmette is trying to “green” our multi-unit residential buildings. This is an important part of greening buildings.
13:16:01 From Sheri Latash to Everyone:
Would this be part of the stretch codes the Capital Development Board will be developing ?
13:17:36 From Marcus to Everyone:
And what about recycling/diposing of all the batteries when electric cars go mass market? Maybe cars are a distraction from a different issue…
13:20:10 From Kim Stone to Everyone:
In response to the questions above, the cost of including wiring for electric charging is minimal in new construction so the builder would pay for this as part of construction. This is separate from the stretch codes, which will not be in place for several years.
13:22:16 From Kim Stone to Everyone:
There are efforts to recycle vehicle batteries as the number of EVs increases. It's likely that the solution to reducing the impact of transportation will involve a combination of electrification and reducing vehicle miles travelled, which is why we put both topics into this program. Public transit is also a key part of this.
13:31:30 From Edith Makra to Everyone:
Register for these events, and catch the recording of our first event here https://www.metroplanning.org/news/10330/Taking-Climate-Action-by-Prioritizing-Walking-Biking-and-Transit

13:33:41 From Liz Bowman to Everyone:
	Des Plaines
13:33:47 From Audrey Wennink, MPC to Everyone:
Are people in your communities asking for more opportunities to bike and walk? What is the constituency advocating for biking and walking infrastructure? How can they be leveraged more to influence leadership?
13:35:00 From Debbie Brown to Everyone:
I’m not aware of anything along these line in Deerfield.
13:35:48 From Iris Overstreet Strupp - GG Brookfield to Everyone:
I invited representatives from Cycle Brookfield, but I'm not sure if they're on the call. They've been involved with ATA. The village adopted our Active Transportation Plan in 2017.
13:36:09 From Marcus to Everyone:
Here in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff, I created a Facebook group so we could begin finding like minded concerned citizens. https://www.facebook.com/groups/375785860608610
13:36:53 From Iris Overstreet Strupp - GG Brookfield to Everyone:
	http://cyclebrookfield.com/
13:37:19 From Janet Smietana to Everyone:
palatine has Bike Club which has worked with the village to develop bike friendly infrastructure improvements
13:37:33 From Andy Amend to Everyone:
Beyond all of what has been discussed, it seems like the building taking place near downtown areas would have a huge impact and starting place to encourage less motor vehicles
13:37:53 From Jacquelyn Casazza - GG Glen Ellyn to Everyone:
Glen Ellyn - there's a group who have been trying to build the East Branch DuPage River Bike Trail here for YEARS. They are making slow and steady progress. We have great access to a few trails, but bikes don't seem integrated into our village plan.
13:38:11 From Charlie Saxe to Everyone:
We have seen the development of some good facilities in Skokie however, it is still difficult to get beyond biking as recreation rather than transportation. We recently started a group - Skokie Bike Network - to help organize a constituency for cycling in Skokie. One recent success has been the plan for the rebuild of Crawford Ave from Oakton to Old Orchard Road to include bike lanes.
13:38:25 From Cheryl Vriezekolk to Everyone:
one challenge is for example educating drivers to watch for cyclists and give them the 3 feet they require according to law
13:38:41 From Beth Drucker to Everyone:
	Bikewalkwilmette.org
13:39:18 From Jay Futterman to Everyone:
City zoning has a big role here. Less sprawl and more infill
13:39:57 From Laurie Breitkopf to Everyone:
The Deerfield Road widening will include a multi-use path for two miles through Riverwoods.
13:41:08 From Nancy Halliday to Everyone:
Glenview has an active bicycling program.
13:42:15 From Sheri Latash to Everyone:
Glenview has contracted with A. Epstein to update the village Bikeability/Walkability Plan. Contract is for $104,000. Greener Glenview will be working to eliminate the problems Kim & Beth identified with neighbors being able to reject sidewalk installation..
13:42:53 From Cheryl Trilling to Everyone:
Lincolnwood turned railroad tracks into bike/walking paths, and one goes from Chicago on one end to Dempster in Skokie.
13:44:15 From Dudley Onderdonk to Everyone:
Glencoe contracted with ATA for a walking & biking plan to include financial support from the Park District and School District
13:45:07 From BERNADETTE KNIGHT to Everyone:
Northbrook tried to implement a sidewalk plan in 2019- 2020 adding sidewalks on every street within a half-mile of a school and split the cost with residents. Unfortunately the cost split motivated a huge push-back from residents impacted and as far as I know the plan was put on hold or abandoned in 2020
13:45:11 From Steven Bachta to Everyone:
I work with Romona school in Wilmette to promote biking to school through the school’s Green Team. Weather obviously makes this difficult in winter, but overall kids love to bike and scoot to school once they try it. For my family, it can be hard to go long distances with kids. I think more bus routes might help, have not investigated but I’m sure most buses allow bikes to be racked on them?
13:46:48 From Seema Keshav to Everyone:
I agree Steven, I think we need more bus routes. Hard to do chores with kids on a bike.
13:46:52 From Sheri Latash to Everyone:
It's more than just the ordinance!
13:47:25 From Jacquelyn Casazza - GG Glen Ellyn to Everyone:
@Steven Bachta I have thought about trying to do a bike to school week, but worried about equity issues (not all kids have access to a bike, or an adult to take them, or live too far). Did this come up at all? Would love to chat offline more
13:47:40 From Edith Makra to Everyone:

13:48:00 From Liz Bowman to Everyone:
Any good resources to create a local map and show bike paths, or areas missing walkability?
13:49:35 From Audrey Wennink, MPC to Everyone:
Here is a resource with data on all the sidewalks in the region: https://datahub.cmap.illinois.gov/dataset/regional-sidewalk-inventory
13:49:48 From Steven Bachta to Everyone:
Re: Bike to school week, we did not make anything mandatory, just promoted to try it of you we’re able. You can email me at sbachta@gmail.com with more questions

13:53:16 From Tracey Edsey Park Ridge to Everyone:
Govt. has no funds. Needs money for more pressing issues
13:53:44 From Tracey Edsey Park Ridge to Everyone:
Sorry. Our local govt has no funds.
13:54:09 From Jacquelyn Casazza - GG Glen Ellyn to Everyone:
@Tracey Edsey for the East Branch DuPage River Trail project they actually got money through Sean Casten's office (our congressional representative in Glen Ellyn)
13:54:39 From Tracey Edsey Park Ridge to Everyone:
	Thank you.
13:54:45 From Rose Naseef to Everyone:
Where space is limited, it may come down to converting existing roads to ped/bike paths. Is this realistic?
13:55:42 From Kim Stone to Everyone:
@Tracey - there are a lot of grant opportunities that your local government can access for these projects. You may also want to consider priorities - what percent of funding is used for roads vs. sidewalks/bike infrastructure? Looked at that way, it might be clear that there should be higher priority on bike projects.
13:55:47 From Beth Drucker to Everyone:
Inspired by Skokie, Wilmette designed bike racks branded for our community. We purchased many with Rotary Club funds and the Village installed them all over town. It sends the message that “Wilmette Bikes!”
13:56:14 From BERNADETTE KNIGHT to Everyone:
There was advocacy for a project in Northbrook/Glenview (2019/2020) called the Techny River Project trail to run a walking/hiking trail south from Techny Rd (Northbrook) towards Willow Rd (west of Willow Hill). Wondering if anyone on the call knows the status of that proposal?
