A recent study by Harvard scientists warns that Trump’s rollbacks of clean air and water protections could kill 80,000 people per decade. According to this article from Inside Climate News, “The largest and most immediate health consequences are likely to come through erosion of air quality, Cutler and Domenici wrote. They included in their calculation the repeal of President Barack Obama’s signature climate change initiative, the Clean Power Plan, as well as the rollback of vehicle fuel economy standards and Trump’s tariffs on solar power components from abroad.”
According to the report “About 90 percent of the increase in respiratory ailments can be attributed to one deregulatory moveāthe effort to re-open a loophole that allowed trucks that don’t comply with pollution rules to remain on the road…” After the article was published, Scott Pruitt re-opened this loophole before resigning from the EPA. See this article for more information on these super polluting trucks.
