Nearly a trillion red-eyed flying cicadas will hatch in the U.S. this spring as two adjacent broods emerge from the ground. This double hit of cicadas hasn’t occurred since 1803 and Illinois will witness the action. Presented by cicada expert Dr. Gene Kritsky, professor emeritus of biology at Mount St. Joseph University and the author of A Tale of Two Broods: The 2024 emergence of Periodical Cicada Broods XIII and XIX. The program is cosponsored by the Glencoe Public Library, the Friends of the Green Bay Trail and the Glencoe Sustainability Task Force.
