We all know that we shouldn’t litter, and we have the best intentions. But you’ve probably noticed that even prosperous and educated North Shore communities see a lot of plastic packaging and shredded bags blowing around streets or snagged in shrubs. Plastic in the environment harms people and wildlife, breaking into smaller and smaller pieces until it enters the water supply and our bodies.
National Cleanup Day--anytime between September 16th and 23rd this year–encourages individuals and groups to go out and pick up trash. This organization, started by avid hikers who saw their favorite trails sullied with more and more litter, partners with volunteers and organizations globally who want to keep the outdoors clean. You can participate in a listed event or register one with this group if you and your organization have a cleanup planned.
