In Nature’s Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation That Starts In Your Yard, author Douglas W. Tallamy urges homeowners to take environmental action into their own hands, one yard at a time, to restore critical ecosystems.
Join Elmhurst Cool Cities Coalition on Sat., July 24, 9 a.m. – noon, to see first-hand how conservation Starts In Your Yard.
You’re encouraged to re-wild and restore your own property with native plants, shrubs and trees, to help:
• Increase biodiversity and ecosystems;
• Beautify your landscape;
• Provide stormwater solutions;
• Reduce overall maintenance;
• And more!
Tour some or all six of the native gardens (three public and three residential) on your own and at your own pace, or join the Elmhurst Bicycle Club on a safe bike route to all six gardens. (Bike helmets are required.)
Each garden will feature a knowledgeable host who is available to tell you more about the garden, individual plants, garden features and additional resources to help you Start In Your Yard.
Register to receive the tour route via email on Wed., July 21: nativegardentour.eventbrite.com.
This is the first in a series of Start In Your Yard events dedicated to restoring our critical ecosystems. Learn more at elmhurstcoolcities.org.
