An estimated one-third of all plastic produced globally is used once and thrown away, and only about 6% of the plastic waste in the U.S. is recycled. Most of it ends up in landfills where it leaches into soil and groundwater, threatening the health of ecosystems, wildlife and humans. The effectiveness of recycling is very limited. Sharon will update us on the problems of single-use plastic and how we can all be part of the solution. More information is available at www.sierraclub.org/illinois/woods-wotlands/take-pass-plastics.
