There are many things that you can do at your home to reduce flooding and improve water quality. We heard about many of these techniques at our recent Go Green Illinois meeting. Here are some tools to help you learn more about these techniques, and quantify the benefits of implementation:
My RainReady is an interactive tool designed to help homeowners understand their flooding risk, and provide information about options for flood mitigation.
The Green Values Calculator helps compare the financial and environmental cost and benefits of conventional versus sustainable development practices. It’s useful for developers, planners and others seeking a more integrated view of development. The methodology behind the green values calculator, including how costs and benefits are quantified, can be found here.
RainReady Oak Park integrates flood risk reduction with green infrastructure. It serves as a model for other local communities. More information is here.
Cook County is offering grants to homeowners through the Suburban Cook County Residential Resilience Program. Eligible homeowners may receive flood mitigation grants of up to $25,000.
