While the IPCC declared a Climate Emergency, Wall Street Banks continue to fund fossil fuel projects. If we are to avoid the IPCC’s dire predictions, Line 3 — the pipeline from Alberta, Canada to Superior, WI — should be cancelled. Enbridge is already responsible for the largest inland spill in U.S. history. Line 3 will bring 1 million gallons of tar sands crude each day through wetlands, wild rice fields, and over 200 lakes, wreaking havoc on the ecosystems and indigenous people’s sacred grounds and livelihoods in violation of existing treaties. Chase, Citibank, Bank of America and Wells Fargo are the four banks that are most complicit in funding oil pipelines. Insurance companies work with these banks, as the pipeline projects must also be insured.
Please take action to help stop investments in fossil fuel projects, and to encourage banks and insurance companies not to fund nor insure Enbridge. Call President Biden at (202) 456-1111 and insist that he make no compromises on the environment and that he declare a National Climate Emergency. This would allow him to reinstate the crude oil export ban and more easily deny permits to new oil and gas projects.
Join us in sending a message to Wall Street that greenwashing will not be tolerated. Take action either in the streets or with an email.
