Several environmental and transportation advocacy groups sent a letter to members of the Transportation Committee of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) in advance of the May, 2022 meeting at which they discussed the draft regional plan, Onto 2050.
Transportation is currently the top source of greenhouse gas emissions in the US. Among the Regionally Significant Projects listed in the draft Plan are 122 additional lane miles of Interstates and 55 miles of Functional Class 2 and 3 roadways. This is not aligned with our region’s climate action plan and its goal of reducing vehicle miles traveled to combat climate change. We can and must do better.
The letter can be found here. Stay tuned for opportunities to provide your input on the Onto 2050 Plan to CMAP.
