Community Solar is a medium-sized installation of solar panels that delivers electricity to the power grid. No roof is required to participate, as the panels are located in solar “farms” within the utility service territory. There is no upfront investment – subscribers simply pay for their electricity each month. Individual residents, non-profits and businesses can subscribe to any available project within their utility service territory. Learn more about Community Solar here.
The Future Energy Jobs Act, passed in 2016, enabled the construction of Community Solar in Illinois. The first projects came online in 2020, and more are expected in 2021. Community solar supports the move to clean, renewable energy.
Many Go Green Groups have worked with a community solar provider to secure a rate of 20% off the standard ComEd supply cost. Learn more here.
